Tarija is well known for two reasons. Firstly, the wine - it's the centre of the Bolivian wine industry and produces many good red and white wines -some dire ones as well! Secondly, the children's parades which seem to be almost spontaneous and erupt into the streets around the centre of the town. The above picture of one such parade was taken in the late morning as the parade returned towards the town centre after winding it's way through the narrow streets. |

Tarija has a peaceful public garden, El Parque de Flores, located on the ourtskirts of the town where the Avenida de las Americas heads up the hill out of town. A pleasant place to spend a quiet afternoon. Nearby is the bustling camposino market next to the church pictured below. |

The Casa de Culturo in the town centre is shown at the top. Admission is free but, of course, the guide is grateful to receive voluntary contributions for its upkeep. It is well worth a visit. The vivid blue and white building below, the Castilla de Beatrix, is now in private hands but has been restored to its original colours.
